Kurzfassung/Abstract
The starting point for the Community Music project was Istanbul, Stadttheater Ingolstadt’s musical theatre production featuring songs by Sezen Aksu. The production reverses a familiar story of migration: instead of people from Turkey coming to Germany as “guest workers”, Germans migrate to Istanbul in search of work. The Community Music concept for the workshop series, developed by Sezgin Inceel, takes this shift in perspective as its starting point. From a postmigrant perspective, the project does not seek a single understanding of home or belonging. Instead, participants’ diverse personal, linguistic, and cultural experiences become the starting point for making music together.
