Kurzfassung/Abstract
This chapter proposes multimodal and inclusive learning paths rooted in the theory of Learning by Design (LbyD) as one possible solution to meet contemporary educational challenges caused by complex technological developments, such as artificial intelligence (AI). It shows how principles of inclusive learning design were adapted in an English as an additional language (EAL) teacher training seminar conducted at a German university in the summer of 2022. The seminar was designed as a twofold learning by design experience, with pre-service teachers switching roles from being learners in a university-based teacher training seminar to becoming teachers at a local grammar school. Their gathered research results were presented in the form of four academic posters and made available to the local researching and teaching community in an exhibition at the university's library hall. All pre-service teachers completed the learning path successfully. Documentation of their learning cycles showed that this course design, which actively integrates theory and practice of foreign language learning and teaching, has the potential to be reused also in other language learning contexts.
