Necessary Features of an Education for Humanity according to Adorno and Kant

Kurzfassung/Abstract

In this presentation, I develop an argument that one can reconstruct positive core features of the concept of education within the generally negative approach of the Critical Theory of the Early Frankfurt School as well as within Immanuel Kant’s deontological ethics, with regard to his conception of a good will. My aim is to link Adorno’s dialectical approach of education (Bildung) to a deontological conceptualization of this term. This would allow us to reconstruct some core features of an education for humanity that is directed against populism and extremism.
