Kurzfassung/Abstract
University teacher-training in General Studies is aimed on developing professional competences enabling teachers to act professionally in all General studies’ content perspectives. Although there are some studies that concern professional competences of primary teachers, most of them relate to the perspective of natural sciences. Empirical results for political education are scarce, particularly for teachers at the primary school level. Regarding teacher-training the questions arise, how high the interest and self-efficacy in the field of political education of budding primary teachers are and if it is possible to change these motivational constructs. In this article I report on the results of a quasi-experimental trial with primary school teachers in training (N = 145). Results indicate that their self-efficacy in political education is low compared to the other perspectives of General Studies and that it is not possible to change their interest, though it is possible to influence their self-efficacy.
